And another one joins the ranks, not even gonna bother with silencing this, they don't even bother with the CWs. sinblr.com , named and shamed.
@blockchain Yo, how about adding something about these untagged NSFW accounts that are currently flooding the Fediverse?
@admin (or well, not rules but general conduct)
@admin - I just had to silence your instance because of NSFW profile pictures. While I appreciate you making an alternative to NSFW Tumblr, could you kindly respect rules and forbid NSFW avatars on your servers?

long post countering a transphobic claim Show more
a recurring transphobic talking point is the question "what if these kids are REALLY GAY instead of trans??", so here are some thoughts about that!
there are a few ways it's obviously bullshit that i want to knock out before getting to what i rlly wanna talk about. first: people can be trans *and* gay! i know, shocker, take a moment
second: the early steps of trying out a new gender are 100% reversible. if someone is like "hey, i wanna try out this name and these pronouns and these clothes" and then is like "whoops, no, that's wrong", they can just . . . go back, no harm done. which is to say: transition is not some relentless juggernaut that, once set in motion, cannot be stopped. people who start transitioning *still have agency and can decide for themselves which steps they do and don't want to take and reverse*
but more fundamentally, when it comes to personal identity, i don't think there's any "there" there. i think there are absolutely societal contexts in which i would have become a binary trans woman or a swishy femme gay man. i also think there are contexts where i'd become a Spanish Inquisitor. and i think this is true of a lot of people!
i think there are absolutely older cis LGB ppl who'd be some flavor of trans were they born in the 90s or 00s. i think there are a lot of 10–30-yr-old trans ppl who'd be cis if we'd been born in the 50s or 60s
and i think this proves *absolutely nothing* beyond the drearily obvious fact that brains are complicated and ppl are shaped by the social contexts they find themselves in. the question "who am i *really*, tho?" has no end or limit. you can excavate forever w/no solid answers
and yes! this means that as societal contexts change, people will change with them, adopting new ways of understanding themselves and being in the world. and yes, sometimes this means older modes of existence fade away, and it's deeply understandable to feel a nostalgic sadness about that! but it does *not* mean that new ways of living are invalid or wrong, and nor does it make it justifiable to forcibly impose old ways of existence on other people. change is a part of life, and the mere presence of change does not make every new thing bad. if you want to argue that new frameworks for understanding queerness are *worse* than the ones we had in the 70s or w/e, you have to *actually make that argument*, not just say "this new way is different". (this is, ofc, eliding the questions of how different these frameworks are, how monolithic the past was, how well it served everyone who lived in it, and how accurately it is being remembered and presented now)
the question "what if they're really gay tho?" presumes that there's some Fixed True Essence of a person, and that happiness is impossible unless you live in accordance with it (where "happiness" can have a philosophically broad definition). it presumes that people are one thing or another, cleanly and immutably, that — to be a bit more Queer Theory about it than i normally am — we *are* instead of we *become*
it also, more insidiously, presumes that being cis and gay is better than being trans. b/c ppl who ask this question aren't really asking "what if instead of being trans and happy, trans ppl could be cis & gay and happy?" (the answer to that question is, i hope obviously, "who the fuck cares? literally what is the point of inquiring after every possible alternate universe instead of the universe at hand?"), they're really saying "we should only let ppl be trans as a last resort, after we've exhausted all other options, b/c being trans, creating trans bodies is inherently undesirable and should be avoided if at all possible. are you *sure* you can't avoid the Terrible Fate of being trans by being cis & gay instead?". which is obviously heinous bollocks. trans bodies are just as good as cis bodies, and being trans is exactly as valid as being cis — they're neutral alternatives, and any claim that cis is in fact better than or preferable to trans is patently and transparently transphobic
anyway, all of this assumes that transphobes are arguing in good faith, which they're flagrantly not ok have a good Wednesday bye
#Emby has officially gone closed-source, putting more impetus on this project to provide a Free Software fork/alternative to Emby. The new project can be found at https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin and is now GPLv2.0.
* no features/membership (freemium like emby was)
* no abusive CLA for contributors that allows the company to close the source…
* committed to free software (they have already replaced the infamous blobs bundled along emby)
